Art Programs
One of our most successful programs is our Orphan Artwork Cards. Art is a creative outlet for the orphans and is an important component of the orphanages we work with in Russia. Through the art programs the children are able to express their feelings, hopes, dreams, & experiences. After participating in our adventure camp programs many of the orphans began sending artwork as a "Thank-You". The orphanage caretakers wrote to us expressing that our programs were having a positive impact on the children. We were so moved and inspired by the artwork of these children we developed the Orphan Artwork Card program turning their beautiful art into cards. The children who participate in this program are given a sense of pride and recognition. Through this program we are able to continue our work with the orphans, affording them opportunities within their community.
All of our Orphan Artwork Cards are reproduced from the child’s original piece of artwork. Each card lists the child’s name, age and orphanage. After a piece of art has been turned into a card, a copy is sent to the child as a keepsake. Artwork is collected 2-3 times per year from several orphanages within Ekateirnburg, Russia. We do not make any specific requests of the children’s artwork, which allows their imagination and true creativity to shine through.
The Orphan Artwork Cards are available through our website, Orphancardshop.org and several Midwest retail locations. A very important attribute of our cards is that they are Fair Trade, which means your purchase directly benefits the orphans. Proceeds are used to fund many of our programs including Adventure Camps, educational fieldtrips and The Birthday Club.
